African Citizenship by Investment Programs (2026)
Citizenship by investment (CBI) programs in Africa are limited, but they do exist.
Unlike Caribbean CBI programs, African citizenship pathways are fewer, less standardised, and often less widely understood.
This page provides a clear overview of what actually exists, how these programs work, and how to access them.
What Citizenship by Investment Programs Exist in Africa?
There are currently only a small number of recognised citizenship by investment programs in Africa.
The primary options include:
- São Tomé and Príncipe Citizenship by Investment Program
- Sierra Leone Citizenship by Investment Program
- Egypt Citizenship By Investment Program
These programs operate through:
- Government contribution or investment models
- Defined application processes
- Licensed processing channels
They are not interchangeable with Caribbean or European frameworks and should be evaluated on their own terms.
Key Differences vs Caribbean Programs
African citizenship by investment programs differ from Caribbean CBI programs in several significant ways:
- Lower global visibility
- Smaller applicant volumes
- Less established international positioning
- Different mobility profiles
- Lower international political exposure
However, they typically offer:
- Lower entry costs
- Faster processing timelines
- Simpler application structures
Program Comparison (High-Level)
São Tomé and Príncipe
- Lower-cost citizenship by investment program
- Entry level typically around $100,000
- Growing international awareness
- Structured government-led framework
- Fast application processing (2.5 months, on average, as at May 2026)
- Fully remote application process, including remote biometrics capture
- Limited, predominantly regional visa-free access privileges
Sierra Leone
- Contribution-based CBI program
- Approx. $140,000+ entry level (Standard Route)
- 2-Step naturalization process
- Processing typically within 3-4 months
- Visa-free access focused on Africa (ECOWAS), Asia, and select jurisdictions
- Lower program awareness levels and uptake by both investment migration industry and foreign applicants
Egypt
- Multiple qualifying routes including donation, real estate acquisition, business investment, and bank deposit structures
- Minimum capital requirements: US$250,000 (government donation) and US$300,000 (real estate)
- Processing timelines typically measured in several months
- Strong regional positioning with broader Middle East and African mobility relevance
- Larger and more institutionally established jurisdiction than most emerging CBI markets
- Physical investment and banking interaction requirements may apply depending on route selected
Forthcoming Programs (Not Yet Open)
- Botswana Impact Citizenship Program (Expected)
Botswana is currently in the process of finalising the institutional and operational framework required to launch its citizenship by investment program, with an expected minimum price point of around US$75,000.
The program is not yet open for applications.
Botswana Citizenship by Investment — Current Status
The Botswana Impact Citizenship Program is in late-stage development but has not yet launched.
Based on direct communication from the program concessionaire:
- The government is finalising institutional formalities and operational structures
- The program will open only once full legal and administrative implementation is complete
- This is intended to ensure a stable and credible launch environment
At this stage:
- No applications are being accepted
- No action is required from interested applicants
- Previously prepared documentation is expected to remain valid
Timelines remain dependent on government finalisation, and no fixed launch date has been confirmed.
This should be understood as:
A pending program — not an active option.
Direct Pricing — No Intermediary Markups
Applications submitted through this platform are processed through licensed program agents.
This means:
- Pricing reflects official program costs
- No additional intermediary markups are applied
- You deal within authorised program structures
Process Overview
The platform operates through a simple structure:
- Definition — The category and constraints are made explicit
- Self-Selection — Users determine alignment independently
- Structured Introduction — Enquiries are routed to counterparties
- Execution — All evaluation, decision-making, and processing occurs off-platform
No intermediate advisory layer is introduced.
Unlike Caribbean citizenship by investment programs, African CBI frameworks vary significantly in structure, processing channels, and international positioning.
Applicants should evaluate these programs based on intended use case, processing objectives, and regional relevance — not passport rankings alone
Structured Enquiry
If you are seeking access within this category, you may submit a structured enquiry.
This is not an application.
It is a request for introduction.
All subsequent evaluation occurs with the relevant counterparty.
